Technology Innovation Program GLOBE Claritas (TIP)
About TIP
The Technology Innovation Program (TIP) is intended to encourage and implement collaboration between Universities and GLOBE Claritas. Research is conducted collaboratively between a participating University and Claritas, with the aim of developing software modules within the Claritas suite. TIP projects are funded through a consortium of international Claritas clients, academic funding streams or directly by Claritas.
Individual projects within the TIP program will typically last 6 to 24 months. Projects may be implemented as, or part of Master or PhD theses or as postdoctoral employment. TIP projects are run at the Claritas HQ, New Zealand and at the participating University. The TIP collaboration will involve bilateral visits to propel the projects.
TIP Candidate
The actual integration will be done by the TIP candidate. Ideally this will be a PhD or Master student who has sufficient programming skills and would like to learn more about software development standards in the industry. Not only will the candidate get the chance to come to New Zealand for a defined period of time, but also the candidate will learn to use the tools of the AIGILE Software Development strategy. He or she will become part of an AGILE/SCRUM team and get hands on experience with subversion, test driven development, pair programming, an integrated development environment such as Eclipse, continuous integration and the AGILE sprint process. The candidate will be given the opportunity to use all of the achievements of the collaboration in his Master Thesis.
Process
Claritas software modules have to comply with a number of software engineering requirements. These are mainly in place to assure the maintainability of the software and the stability of the product. Speed and user friendliness are also part of these requirements.
In order to transfer academic code into this engineering framework a number of refactoring/integration steps are anticipated, these will be done in collaboration with the TIP Candidate.
